BUILT HEAD OFFICE
Located within the adaptive reuse of Sydney's historic Substation No. 164 on Gadigal Land, Built's award-winning headquarters transforms two heritage industrial buildings into a contemporary workplace centred on sustainability, collaboration and employee wellbeing.
Designed by fjcstudio, the 6,000m² workplace carefully balances the character of the existing warehouse and electrical substation with contemporary interventions. Planting is embedded throughout the workplace as an integral part of the architecture.
The project incorporates multiple Junglefy Breathing Wall systems, bespoke Breathing Stands and Indoor Planters, creating a layered network of living systems throughout the office. Together, these active planting systems improve indoor environmental quality, introduce greenery into shared spaces and support a healthier, more engaging workplace.
Rather than treating planting as a decorative addition, the living systems are integrated into the everyday experience of the building, contributing to both occupant wellbeing and the project's ambitious sustainability outcomes. Built Head Office demonstrates how integrated biophilic systems can enhance workplace design, creating environments that prioritise employee wellbeing, sustainability and the everyday experience of the people who use them.
